Chart Abbreviations and Information Print E-mail

New Era Trader Charts are notated by Stan Moore who often uses financial, symbols and other terms to defined or frame the market's action. Many of these notations contain terms in the form of abbreviations which are explained below. Abbreviations are mainly used to save chart space.

Chart Abbreviations

Abbreviation Description
1, 2, 3, etc. Refers to reversal entry and/or exit candle (no longer used)
40 Refers to a Fibonacci retracement of 38.2% (rounded to 40%)
60 Refers to a Fibonacci retracement of 61.8% (rounded to 60%)
80 Refers to a Fibonacci retracement of 76.4% (rounded to 80%)
@ At
A/D Advancing/Declining; refers to number of stocks advancing versus number of stocks declining; also see the symbols quote list
AG Alan Greenspan, Federal Reserve Board Chairman, retired 2007
ATM At the Money; an option term
BB Ben Bernanke, 2008 Federal Reserve Board Chairman
BSC Bear Stearns, a major WS brokerage and investment firm; also "BC"; defunct in late 2008
BO Breakout
CFC Countrywide Financial, a large US financial services corporation
CRB Commodities Research Bureau Index
D/DD/DDD Oscillator divergence, double divergence and triple divergence
DMA Day Moving Average; moving average over, for example, 50 days, 50DMA; this indicator is not be confused with displaced moving average in the original ROM course and is used on the daily chart only
ECB European Central Bank, like the US Federal Reserve Bank
Econ Economy or Economic; also "Ecom"
EOD End of Day; 3:30 to 3:45 PM; a NET TOD indicator
EXPO Expiry week
Fed US Federal Reserve Bank
GS Goldman Sachs, a major WS brokerage and investment corporation
HF Hedge Funds
ID Intraday; often refers to retracements for the high and/or low of today
ITM In the Money; an option term
M's/Ms Monthly OEX options (as opposed to Weekly options)
MD Multi-day; refers to retracements for the high and/or low of the previous market day
MI Market intelligence
MM Multi-month; as in time spanning several months
mm/dd Month/day (example 11/14); refers to the date of a retracement for the high and/or low; used for dates prior to the prior market day
MO (Big) MOmentum stocks or momentum trading
MS Morgan Stanley, a leading US investment banking firm
MW Multi-week; as in time spanning several weeks
OM Option Magic; refers to the Option Magic training manual
ops Opportunities; sometimes as "Op's"
ORBO Opening Range Breakout; a type of breakout NET trade
OSC Oscillator, "Ed CROSS with Avg 81" a proprietary TradeStation indicator
OTM Out of the Money; an option term
RT/F ReTest/Failure; "12/12" would mean RT/F of Dec 12 of the same year
QP Quote Page from TradeStation; a TS quote page where multiple securities are quoted; also see "TP" below
S/s Trend segment or price leg; refers to retracement from the high or low of the most recent segment or leg and not of the day's range (unless no reversal has occurred)
SMD Small Multi-Day; a small new intraday, multi-day retracement off the last leg covering two days
S/R Support and/or Resistance
SOS Sign of Strength; refers to Oscillator holding above35/44 on any time frame
SOW Sign of Weakness; refers to Oscillator failing to move above 62/71. See Oscillator training video from above
ST Short term; refers to something that may last 1-2 days or so
T1, T2, T3 Profit targets of T1, T2, or T3 from an A-B-C retracement swing; refer to training materials for their definition and formulas
T#1, T#2, T#3 Net tenets; for T#1 and T#2 basics refer to the training manuals, for T#3 refer to this manual
TB Turtle Bisque (trade)
TP Trading page on TradeStation; same as QP (see QP above)
TS TradeStation trading platform
"They" Mysterious, often unknown, financial forces who manipulate the market for their own purposes

Stan’s Charts Contain:

  1. Fundamental data, notes and thoughts; text highlights
  2. Various indicators such as RT/F levels, Oscillator crossovers and divergences (text and line), TODs (often with lines), S/R lines, trend lines, Fibonacci retracement levels (intraday, multi-day and date) and profit targets
  3. Arrows for E-mini trades; single arrow of any color is a partial or complete exit; double arrow any of color is a complete exit and/or reversal entry, double red or blue arrow is a potential hedge trade against an offsetting option trade (most liked like found on a Thursday or Friday chart); for example, long calls with two red arrows means sell S&Ps; double red or blue arrows with a yellow background are reversal candle trades but can also be hedge trades
